Superman / Batman #26 - Sam's Story -- Update

The original release had been scheduled for April but it is now arriving in the shop next Thursday, June 1st. As noted back in February, I planned on doing something special surrounding the release of this comic. Most of what was planned remains the same with some slight changes.

If this all seems new to you, then please go to Newsarama and read the Jeph Loeb interview about Superman/Batman #26 and Sam's Story.

Here's what I'll be doing here at Phantom to raise money for the fund:

1. I'm going to be donating 100% of my sales of Superman/Batman #26 to the Sam Loeb College Scholarship Fund.

2. There will be a raffle drawing (100% of the collection will go to the fund) for three Phantom of the Attic Gift Certificates: 1) A $100 Gift Certificate 2) A $100 Gift Certificate 3) A $50 Gift Certificate

The cost of the raffle tickets is $2 per ticket or 3 tickets for $5.

Raffle tickets can be purchased until June 20, 2006. The drawing will be held on Wednesday June 21, 2006.

3. In addition to the gift certificates there will also be drawings for other items such as graphic novels, action figures, posters, etc.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the shop -- phantom (at) city-net.com.

If you would like to donate directly to the Sam Loeb College Scholarship Fund you may send an e-mail to samloeb4@aol.com for more information.

(Thanks to Jeff A. for underwriting $150 in gift certificates).

(Thanks to Nat Gertler of About Comics for donating an autographed copy of Kurt Busiek's and James Fry's The Liberty Project).

Phantom Of The Attic - The New Look! Part 2

This room has New Comics, recent comics, back issues, action figures, and though you can't see them T-Shirts as well. For those you who were around "back in the day" this was also the original space for Phantom from the late 1980's until November 2000. An All-Ages/Kid-Friendly rack The All-New Young Readers section! This will most likely be a revolving "Featured Rack". It currently has titles related to and including Infinite Crisis. Look for it to be home to '52' from DC over the course of the next year. A wall of DC Graphic Novels and TPBs. And finally, another selection of graphic novels.

Here are some recent photos of the shop. Right Click and Open in New Window to see a larger version.

Some Indie and other graphic novel selections

Marvel Ultimates and Marvel Essentials

A grand selection of DC Archives

Another couple racks of Indie graphic novels.

The massive "Wall Of Vertigo"

An offering of Manga with Marvel in the background.

Phantom of the Attic - Monroeville

Hello. My name is Roy Thompson. I own a comic shop in Monroeville, PA (just east of Pittsburgh) called Phantom of the Attic. It's located at 3766 William Penn Highway [Route 22] in Monroeville.

If you're from the Pittsburgh area you may recognize the name of the shop. There are three other "Phantoms" in the Pittsburgh area. Two of them are located on South Craig Street in Oakland situated between the Pitt and CMU campuses. Of those two, one specializes in games and the other in comics. Both of these shops are owned by a fellow named Jeff. The third is located at Parkway Center Mall in Greentree [just outside of the Fort Pitt tunnels] and is owned by a guy named Ron.

The short version of our history is the shops were originally owned by a guy who sold off each store individually. This was way back in August 1990. As part of the agreement we were each permitted to maintain the name 'Phantom of the Attic' for individual use. Over the years, all of the shops have developed their own differing identities but few people realize they are independent stores and not part of a chain or franchise. There. Now that the story is semi-straight onto the reason for the blog.

Well, I don't have any sort of presence on the web for my shop. And I guess I thought it was high-time to scratch the surface of it. [And, hopefully, this will get me rolling in the direction of finally getting a website!!] Initially, what you'll find here will be a listing of comics and other items that will be hitting my shop for the upcoming Wednesdays [I do send out a weekly mailer via e-mail that highlights the same thing but I plan on making the list here a bit different than the mailer] and maybe some thoughts/suggestions/reviews/musings about comics. I know, I know. It's a dime a dozen for blogs/sites like this so I'll try to keep it "not boring". Wish me luck.

So. I guess that's as good a place to start as any. If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments feel free to post them in the comments section. Be nice!
